a brief look into our history

Established in 1921 by Sam Kraus as S. Kraus Inc., Skyline has been a pioneering force in the construction industry for over a century.  What began as a roofing and waterproofing company evolved over the years, guided by a commitment to quality and innovation.  In the 1950s, under the leadership of Sam’s son, David Kraus, Skyline expanded into the window replacement business, then a new and burgeoning industry.

Under the leadership of third-generation Chairman of the Board, Steven Kraus, Skyline underwent significant growth and diversification in the 1970s.  Steven’s strategic direction propelled the company into new product offerings, integrating cutting-edge European hardware systems and spearheading the development of historic replacement window designs.

The 1980s marked a pivotal time for Skyline as New York City’s architectural landscape underwent transformation with the establishment of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.  Working closely with the Commission, Skyline played a pivotal role in setting the standards by which all landmark buildings’ windows would be restored.

Skyline’s dedication to excellence has earned us a spot as a leader in the industry.  We have helped construct and renovate some of the most notable buildings in in New York including Rockefeller Center, The Chrysler Building, The Hearst Building, One Wall Street, The Pierre Hotel, The San Remo, The El Dorado, The Domino Residential Towers, among others.

Beyond New York, our influence extends across the nation with projects such as The Prudential Tower in Boston, The Tides South Beach, and Princeton University to name a few.
